Hear Meowt πŸ™➡️ ~ The DCEU was better than the new DCU can possibly ever be

Let’s be honest—Hollywood does a lot of questionable things, but one of the dumbest moves I’ve seen in recent years is the rebooting of the DCEU. For a long time, DC fans like me finally had something we could really hold onto: a cinematic universe of our own, standing toe-to-toe with the MCU. It wasn’t perfect, sure, but it had heart, it had grit, and most importantly—it had potential.

The DCEU gave us something special. It became iconic in its own right, and for once, DC fans could feel proud that our universe was being built on the big screen. We got a connected storyline across multiple films, and the characters weren’t just thrown together—they were developed, fleshed out, and portrayed in ways that felt authentic to their roots. Personally, I was thrilled to see crossovers not only within the films but also with other DC universes, like the Arrowverse. It really felt like all the puzzle pieces were finally clicking into place.

Take Superman, for example. In the DCEU, his portrayal was one of the closest I’ve ever seen to the original idea of Superman—a symbol of hope, power, and alien otherness. And don’t even get me started on Cyborg. That version of Cyborg was the best depiction I’ve seen in fiction in years—TV shows, comics, you name it. He wasn’t just a background tech guy, he had depth, pain, strength, and a story worth telling. For once, Cyborg got the respect he deserved.

Now, instead of building on all that momentum, Hollywood decides to pull the plug and start fresh. And the kicker? They’re already talking about making Superman “more human.” I’m sorry, but that completely misses the point. Superman isn’t human. He’s an alien who chooses to care for humanity, and that’s what makes him inspiring. Trying to water him down into something more “relatable” just takes away what makes him Superman in the first place.

The truth is, the rebooted universe has barely even dropped yet, but I can almost guarantee it won’t capture the same magic the DCEU had. Maybe it’ll be okay. Maybe it’ll even be good. But to erase everything we had, all the characters we grew attached to, all the foundations already set in stone—it feels like Hollywood shooting itself in the foot.

At the end of the day, I just hope the new universe is at least acceptable. And more importantly, they better not do my boy Cyborg dirty. Because if there’s one thing the DCEU proved, it’s that these characters already had the power to inspire us. We didn’t need a reboot.
